Mini Melts USA, Inc.

Mini Melts USA operates as the exclusive licensee of Mini Melts Inc. to produce Mini Melts® ice cream in the United States. Mini Melts Inc. owns the equipment and facility in Norwich, Connecticut and Mini Melts USA operates this facility under this exclusive license.

Owners Shawn Kilcoyne and Dan Kilcoyne, brothers, were in high school (ages 18 and 14) when they began selling ice cream at local events. Shawn's first encounter with cryogenic ice cream had been at a local fair when he was 12 years old. He was so captivated with the product and the potential that it had that he told his mother that he was going to start a business.

Shawn prepared a business plan as an assignment in one of his high school classes. With some money they had saved and a loan from their parents, the idea turned into a start-up business. They sold their ice cream from a Styrofoam freezer initially in their high school cafeteria and then in any location where they could acquire a spot.

In the years to come, their business became the largest Mini Melts, Inc. distribution company in the country. Their success gained national recognition when they were featured as one of the top ten Entrepreneurs of the Year by Inc. Magazine in 2007. And the decision was made to acquire the Mini Melts® manufacturing and distribution rights for the entire country to create similar distribution companies around the country using their business model.

While Shawn and Dan both set the strategic direction for the company and both work with existing and prospective distributors, they divide other responsibilities:

Dan Kilcoyne

In addition to activities emphasizing business development and profitability enhancement, Dan works on Mini Melts® branding projects such as public relations, point-of-sale materials and website enhancement. He graduated with a BA in Business Management and Marketing Strategies from Holy Family University, where he also completed a Certified Business Coaching Certification Program. He served as president of his college class. At Father Judge High school, he was class president and received two good citizenship awards from the State House of Representatives and Philadelphia City Council. Dan currently resides in Philadelphia with his wife Michele, who is an elementary school teacher, and son Owen. He previously coached high school basketball for five years.

Shawn Kilcoyne

Shawn specializes in building business relationships with all existing and prospective distributors and vendors. His mindset is on new and innovative approaches to make the business grow, easier to operate and more profitable. Shawn served as class president for three consecutive years at Father Judge High School and was awarded the Leadership Award from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Shawn attended Penn State University, but decided to leave school to focus full-time on developing the business. Shawn and his wife Shannon are parents of James, 10, and Katie, 7. In the rare times he is not working on business issues, Shawn acts as the assistant coach of his son's baseball team and volunteers at various events at his children's school.

Charlie Hanna
Vice President of Business Development

Charlie specializes in building new business relationships. Charlie’s goals are to diversify the business with different target markets with growth potential in for years to come. His background is in customer service and sales. He worked as Assistant Caddy Master at Torresdale Frankford Country Club in Philadelphia for two seasons after caddying for 8 years. He then worked for a nationally known insurance company for over nine years. He was the Office/Sales Manager for four years while serving as a Registered Representative. Charlie is licensed in Property & Casualty, Life, Accident & Health, and Series 6 & 63. He was a top producer in the office for multiple lines of business. While in the insurance business he learned the importance of timely customer services and sales follow ups. Charlie graduated from Pennsylvania State University, Abington College in 2001 earning a BS in Business. His focus was on Financial Services and was a member of the Abington College golf team in 2000-2001. Charlie graduated in 1997 from Father Judge High School in Philadelphia. Charlie currently resides in Cinnaminson, New Jersey with his wife Jennifer and daughter Taylor.

Dan Korteweg
General Manager

Dan's main responsibility is the day to day oversight of day-to-day production and distribution, administration, accounting freight and customer service functions. You also might see Dan driving our delivery truck from time to time! After graduating college with degrees in Business Computer Sciences and Recreation, Dan worked in family businesses; first as Promoter and General Manager at the Waterford Speedbowl, a car race track in Waterford CT; and then as the Comptroller and Customer Service Manager for Ultracell Medical Technologies, a specialty surgical manufacturer and supplier. Just prior to joining Mini Melts, Inc. in 2005, he was the Retail Manager at Grossman's Seafood's new store in Groton CT. When not at work, Dan is a faithful Boston sports fan who also enjoys playing slow pitch softball and golfing, as well as practicing his culinary skills in the kitchen. Dan is very involved with Children's Ministries, working in the Awana Clubs International program for over 25 years. Dan lives in Mystic, CT and has been married to Cindy for 25 years. They have two boys; 25 year old Eric and 22 year old Aaron, and one grandchild.

Sandy Kuchta

Sandy handles many aspects of the accounting functions within the company. She is responsible for the monthly financial reporting. She has been an integral part in the setup of account systems and control, procedures and paperwork flow. Sandy is also involved in sales and production forecasting, and inventory reconciliation. Sandy has over 25 years accounting experience working in various food manufacturing, processing and distributing companies prior to joining Mini Melts USA. Sandy earned an Associate Degree in Data Processing Thames Valley Technical College and completed Accounting courses at Northeastern University. Sandy lives in Niantic, CT with her husband Mike. She has one son, 20 years old, who is currently attending Syracuse University. When Sandy is not in the office she enjoys working for her church and spending time with her family and friends. She is also an avid race car fan and works with her husband on a small race car parts business.

Patti Giesing
Customer Liaison

Patti coordinates many aspects of the business relationship between Mini Melts USA and our distributors. Much of her time is consumed in shipping products by booking freight and keeping our customers informed of the status of their deliveries. Patti is always there to address difficult issues. She monitors the shipping and locations of all equipment sold and deployed in the field. She also assists in invoicing and managing accounts receivable. Prior to joining Mini Melts USA, Patti worked for many years in the Hotel and Casino business as a Director of Sales. Patti also has a BS in Public Relations. Along with being a mother of three and grandmother of four, she finds time to volunteer in her church.
